How to set it up

This may vary depending on the OS version and model.
We will guide you through how to set up your eSIM after you apply for it on the online store.

Procedure via app

Using the app, you can easily download the eSIM profile and configure settings for communication.
Connect to Wi-Fi, install the app, and follow the instructions to activate.

  • ・A Wi-Fi connection is required for setup.

STEP 1 Display the QR code

1. Receiving Email

After completing your eSIM application at the online store, you will receive an email with the subject "【Y!mobile Online Store】eSIM Usage Procedure Notification." Click on the URL in the email to proceed to the "Activation Procedure."

Recommendation

Please access from a device other than the one you will be using the SIM with.

2. Specify the method for receiving the one-time password

Select how you would like to receive the one-time password for downloading your eSIM profile.
Please choose from "Receive via registered email address" or "Receive via automated voice call" to receive your one-time password (6 digits).

3. Display the QR code

Enter the one-time password you received to display the QR code.

STEP 2 Scan the QR code

Note

Please follow the steps below.

Please perform the operation on the model you will be using the eSIM on.

  • iOS
  • Android
  • 1. On the device you want to use the eSIM on, go to "Settings" > "Mobile" > "Add Mobile Plan."
    The camera will start up so you can read the QR code displayed.
    *Do not close the QR code screen.
  • 2. Tap "Add Mobile Plan."

Note

If the OS version is "iOS16 or later", the following screen will be displayed.

Tap "Continue".

If you see "Connecting to network...", the profile has already been downloaded.
Please proceed to the next STEP.

If you see the message "Failed to activate eSIM" while setting up your eSIM, please follow the steps below.

  1. Switch the line (if you have already done so, go to "2. Restart your device" below).
  2. Restart your device
  3. Follow the instructions in the app or on the screen to continue with the initial setup.
  • 3. Go to "Settings" > "Mobile Data" and confirm that the plan has been added to "Mobile Data Plans" to complete the profile setup.
    Please proceed to the next step to complete the setup.

Please do not delete your mobile plan. You will no longer be able to use Y!mobile eSIM.

Note

If you have SIM cards inserted, you will need to select which SIM to use as the default.

  • 4. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen showing the QR code and tap "Next to complete setup."

STEP 3: Activate Y!mobile line/switch lines

Follow the instructions on the procedure screen to proceed with the line switching procedure.
If the following screen appears, tap [Switch line].

Once you complete the procedure, the switch will be completed in about 15 minutes.
Once you receive the "Registration Complete" email, please restart your device.

Once you switch lines, you cannot switch back to the original line.
・If your MNP reservation number has expired, you will not be able to switch lines.

STEP 4 [For SIM-free iPads] Set up the APN

To use packet communication, you will need to set up an APN (access point).

  • If the settings are set automatically, check the settings, and if the settings are different, create new APN settings.
  • For details on how to set up your phone, please contact the company that sold you your phone.
  • If you cannot connect to the Internet (mobile data) on a model other than a SIM-free iPad, connect to Wi-Fi and update iOS to the latest version.

If you cannot communicate after completing the eSIM setup

If you have completed all the steps to set up your eSIM but are still unable to communicate, please check the following:

① Have you restarted your device?

First, try restarting your device.

②Is the eSIM profile downloaded?

If the eSIM profile has not been downloaded, please download it again by going through the activation process.
If you have already downloaded an eSIM profile, do not delete it.

③Is the SIM lock on the device unlocked?

If the SIM lock is not removed, you can unlock the SIM lock by going to the website or store of the mobile phone company where you purchased the device. For details, please see the SIM unlocking method page.

  • * For customers who purchase products after Wednesday, May 12, 2021, if you purchase a product that supports SIM unlocking, the SIM unlocking procedure will be performed at the time of purchase. There is no need for you to request this procedure.

④Has your MNP reservation number expired?

If your MNP reservation number has expired, you will need to obtain a new MNP reservation number from your original carrier.

How to obtain an MNP reservation number

Once you have obtained your reservation number again, please call the Y!mobile Online Store office before switching your line.

⑤Has the line switching been completed?

If you wish to continue using your current phone number with Y!mobile, please follow the steps in "Activate your line/switch your line (STEP 3 above)" after downloading the eSIM profile.

[If the QR code cannot be read] Enter the code manually to download the profile

Please follow these steps to download in the following cases:

  • If you cannot read the QR code
  • If you are viewing this page on a device that uses eSIM
  • 1. Connect your device to a non-mobile network such as Wi-Fi, and select "Settings" > "Mobile" > "Add Mobile Plan."

  • 2. Tap "Enter details manually".

  • 3. The message displayed on the screen
    ① SM-DP+ address
    ② Activation code
    Enter this information on your smartphone screen.

  • 4. Tap "Add Mobile Plan."

Note

If the OS version is "iOS16 or later", the following screen will be displayed.

Tap "Continue".

  • 6. Scroll to the bottom of the "Download eSIM profile" screen and tap "Next to complete setup."

  • 1. Select "Settings" → "Network and Internet" → "Mobile Networks".

  • 2. Go to the next screen by clicking "Download a SIM instead?"

  • 3. Use the activated camera to read the QR code displayed in [2].
    *Do not close the QR code screen.

  • 4. Once the QR code has been read, select "Activate" and download the profile.

  • 5. Confirm activation and the setup is complete.
    Please proceed to the next step to complete the setup.

    Please do not delete the SIM card under any circumstances. You will no longer be able to use Y!mobile eSIM.

  • 6. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen showing the QR code and tap "Next to complete setup."

STEP 3 Activate and switch over to Y!mobile

Follow the instructions on the procedure screen to proceed with the line switching procedure.
If the following screen appears, tap [Switch line].

Once you complete the procedure, the switch will be completed in about 15 minutes.
Once you receive the "Registration Complete" email, please restart your device.

Once you switch lines, you cannot switch back to the original line.

STEP 4: Set up the APN

If you cannot communicate after completing the eSIM setup
