Earthquake Early Warning

We will inform you about the contents of the Emergency Earthquake Alert service.

When an earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 5 or higher occurs, a warning is sent simultaneously to all areas with a seismic intensity of 4 or higher.

This is a service that simultaneously notifies customers in the target area of the Japan Meteorological Agency's "Earthquake Early Warning" *1.

  • ※1The Japan Meteorological Agency's Earthquake Early Warning System is a system that analyzes observational data captured by seismometers near the epicenter immediately after an earthquake occurs to immediately estimate the epicenter and magnitude of the earthquake, and provides information as quickly as possible about areas where strong shaking (seismic intensity 4 or higher) is expected in the event of an earthquake estimated to have a maximum seismic intensity of 5 or higher.

Breaking news is displayed on the standby screen along with an alert sound.

When you see or hear an Earthquake Early Warning

With an Earthquake Early Warning, there are only a few to a few tens of seconds between when you hear the information and when the strong shaking of the earthquake will occur. In that short time, you need to take action to protect yourself. The basic action to take when you hear or see an Earthquake Early Warning is to "first ensure your own safety without panicking, depending on the situation around you," while calling out to people around you.

When you're indoors

At home

  • Protect your head and take shelter in a safe place, such as under a sturdy desk.
  • Do not rush outside in a panic.
  • Do not try to put out the fire by force.

In facilities with many people

  • Remain calm and do not rush to the exit.

While driving

When riding on a train or bus,

  • Please hold on tightly to a strap or handrail.

In the elevator

  • Please stop at the nearest floor and get off immediately.

When you are outdoors

In the city

  • Please be careful of collapsing block walls.
  • Be careful of falling signs and broken glass.
  • If you are near a sturdy building, take shelter inside the building.

Near mountains and cliffs
